# DecisionVault > DecisionVault is the client data gathering tool for estate planning law firms. Clients enter their information once and it flows straight to where the firm needs it: case management, document drafting, document automation, or the firm's own AI assistants and agents via the DecisionVault MCP server. ## Overview Estate planning firms lose hours chasing client information (family members, assets, beneficiaries) through paper forms, PDFs, and email back-and-forth, then re-keying it into multiple systems. DecisionVault replaces that with a guided client portal: clients enter their own information, on their own time, and it flows straight into the tools the firm already uses. Built specifically for estate planning attorneys, DecisionVault works for solo practitioners through multi-attorney firms and connects to the leading case management and document drafting tools in the legal stack, and to AI assistants and agents through its MCP server. - **Gather** — Clients enter the people in their life, their financial information, assets, and beneficiaries in the portal. The complete picture, captured once. - **Integrate** — Sync contacts, names, addresses, and relationships to your case management and drafting tools, or let your AI assistant or agent work with the data through the DecisionVault MCP server. No copy-paste, no re-entering the same data across systems. - **Deliver** — Turn the collected information into deliverables: funding instructions, plan summaries, or merges into your own Word documents. A growing number of firms run parts of their workload and drafting through AI. DecisionVault is the client data gathering solution for such a setup: the firm system can stay locked down to just the firm's staff users, while DecisionVault takes care of gathering information directly from clients. It works with Claude, ChatGPT, and any MCP-compatible client, including custom agents a firm builds itself. Setup is self-serve for DecisionVault customers; see the support article linked below. Firms are increasingly building AI-based systems to manage their workload and draft documents. DecisionVault is the client data gathering layer for that approach: clients enter their information in the DecisionVault portal over time, firm staff can flag what is missing and it will automatically follow-up with the clients until complete. The firm's AI can then work with the full structured data set through MCP, the same way case management, document drafting, and document automation tools already receive it. **Available to every firm (the default: matter management, no client data):** - Create a new matter and invite one or two clients to the questionnaire. - List open matters by name, filtered by meeting date and submitted state. - Get matter completeness stats: how many assets, files, and contacts the client has added, and whether the intake is submitted. - Update a matter's name or meeting date, toggle it back to unsubmitted, or move it to another workflow stage. **Client data access (enabled per firm, on request):** By default, client data is not available through the MCP server. A firm can request client data access from DecisionVault support. Access is switched on firm by firm after DecisionVault reviews the firm's AI setup; the AI solution must have model training turned off and Zero-Data-Retention or equivalent. Once enabled, additional tools become available: one tool reports whether the firm has client data access, and the others return a client's contacts, financials, roles, questionnaire questions and answers, or the complete intake as a single markdown document ready to hand to a drafting or workflow agent.
